Introduction

The Quran, the holy book of Islam, contains many references to natural phenomena that align with modern scientific discoveries. Despite being revealed over 1,400 years ago, the Quran includes details about the natural world that were only confirmed by scientists in recent decades. This has led many to marvel at the depth of knowledge contained within its verses.

Scientific Discoveries in the Quran

1. Embryology

The Quran describes the development of a human embryo in great detail. In Surah Al-Mu’minun, it states, “We created man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a drop of fluid in a safe place. Then We made that drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump of flesh…” (Quran 23:12-14). This matches the stages of human development discovered through modern science.

2. The Big Bang Theory

In Surah Al-Anbya, the Quran talks about the beginning of the universe: “Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them…” (Quran 21:30). This aligns with the Big Bang theory, which states the universe started from a single point and has been expanding ever since.

3. The Expansion of the Universe

The Quran mentions the expansion of the universe in Surah Adh-Dhariyat: “And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander” (Quran 51:47). This idea, confirmed by scientists in the 20th century, shows the Quran’s advanced understanding of the cosmos.

4. The Role of Water in Life

In Surah Al-Anbya, it is revealed: “We made every living thing from water, will they not believe?” (Quran 21:30). Modern biology confirms that water is essential for all forms of life, making up a significant portion of every living organism.

5. The Protective Atmosphere

The Quran refers to the protective properties of the earth’s atmosphere in Surah Al-Anbya: “And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away” (Quran 21:32). This aligns with the scientific understanding of the atmosphere protecting the earth from harmful radiation and meteoroids.

These examples illustrate how the Quran contains profound insights into natural phenomena, many of which were only understood by science centuries later.
